Making better best !

20th November 2009

Was screening through a blog of my childhood friend, Chermayne and found a great way to start this post today, reflecting my thoughts through my weeks in UK.

And a little stand by-the-side-of-the-road is a good spot to learn from a wise saying:

"If life hands you lemons, make lemonade."
[Just so you know, this quote brings the meaning of making life better. From sour to sweet.]

But, we'd like to add, then market it, franchise it, and sell it to a major international conglomerate as a fresh fruit drink. [1996 F. Popcorn Clicking iii. 408]

-Think of it, why just make life better? Make the best out of it peeps !! -

Masa belajar syok betul !!

18th November 2009

I'm going for classes tomorrow. One final class of revision before our finals. Really excited for it!! :D It's been quite some time since I last go for classes. Honestly, i'm already missing it ! Miss the early hours we have to wake up, miss the long hours in classes thinking when is the lecturer calling for break next, miss the fast writing racing to keep up with the lecturer's lecturing pace, miss the short lunch break the lecturer gives us & all 6 of my housemates have to pack ourselves in the kitchen preparing lunch, miss the walks to uni every morning, miss the monday blues I used to have..etc. It was fun, now that I began to think about it.

Awww.. life in 'school' is really carefree, isn't it? Besides exams & deadlines, there's nothing much to worry about. :D I'm glad I'm already appreciating uni life before it ends. yippee-dee-doo!! See you mates in class tomorrow.

For now, more revision to do! :) signing off~

Keeping me going ~❤

17th November 2009

Checked my email this morning - as usual - and this email truly made my day. :)

Hey sam !

Just want to share with you the student psalm and a few verses in the midst of your assignments, exams and presentation!

The Lord is my shepherd, i shall not flunk
He keepeth me from lying down when i should be studying.
He leadeth me beside the water cooler for a study break,
He restores my faith in study guides.
He leads me to better study habits
for my grades' sake.

Yea, tho' i walk through the valley of borderline grades,
i will not have a nervous breakdown
for thou art with me.

My prayers and my friends, they comfort me.
thou gives me the answers in moments of blankness
thou anoint my head with understanding,
my test paper runneth over with the questions i recognise,
surely passing grades and flying colours shall follow me
all the days of examinations.

The promise of wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5

The promise of strength
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Phil 4:13

The promise of peace
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you.
Do not let you hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
John 14:27

These are the promises from God that no matter what you are going through. He will give you the wisdom, the strength and the peace. ;) Just do your best and surrender all to Him ! I am keeping you in my prayers.

Take care alright!

Love,
Steph xx

ps: Steph, I'm dearly blessed for having you as my mate even before I came to Birmingham. You have been such a bliss to me! Thanks a lot, really.

pps: Also, thanks to my family, Vivien, Ming & the rest of the SEEDs members for keeping me going through your unfailing prayers. The Lord is my Strength, I'll keep that in mind. :D

Really hope she loves the giftbox & card! :D really, really do! Steph will helped me on the OCC Sticker by ticking "GIRL" and it's ready to be sent. :D [Thanks Steph]

Oh yea, almost forgotten about this. On my way back to Cop., I noticed something...

Yeap, my SHADOW!!! Which means, there's sun today - a Long lasting SUN!!!
woohoo... I love the sunshine today!!!

Clear blue sky & the SUNSHINE!!!

I finally got to do my laundries!! yippee-dee-doo!!!
Thank you, Lord!

14 November 2009

"Pitter-Patter" says "No laundry!"

14th November 2009

I finally comprehend the saying of "In UK, you'll see 4 seasons in a day". That's really true! LOL. One moment you see the sun (summer) and you appreciate the breeze that comes along your way (Spring); the next moment, a strong gust of wind hits you (Autumn) and it then rains very harshly (Winter). Cool or what?!

I used to wash my laundries everyday. Why everyday? You might ask. Well, I can't really apply the concept of "pile-up-&-wash-it-at-1-go" with this little room of mine because there won't be ample space for me to hang them up! (I'm sort of saving $ not using the dryer in the laundry)

These few day, it had been raining always..

I would still have wash my laundries, but I wouldn't have anywhere to hang them up.. dear, dear. Hence, no drying - no washing. :X In days, my laundries have piled up so much. =.='''

I desperately miss need the sun - the whole day - not Peek-a-boo!! :) I want to NEED to do my laundries!!!

Sun, oh Sun. have mercy on us, for our laundries sake!! LOL...

Radiator calling 'timeout' !!

14th November 2009

It's getting colder these days, honestly, especially the night. What's making it worse is - exams near, studies piling up - which means more "late nights staying up" - I desperately need the heat to keep myself concentrating [See what am I doing now (it's 11.46pm here right now)?? --- BLOGGING!! LOL]

Our radiator has a timeout session itself, it'll heat up every morning around 7am - 9am plus, then, it calls for a time-out. Then, it reheats around 6pm - 12am(usually) everyday. Not bad for a timeout huh?! LMAO.

These few nights, the radiator starts calling for timeout even before 11.30pm!! wth !! It's not helping at all! Guess it'll bring us all(who's having an exam now) to file a complain to the accommodation lady very soon.

We need the HEAT to withstand the cold night!!! please~ T.T

*Committed ✿ Blessings*

12th November 2009

I was really tired today, really really tired. :)

Besides staying up late & waking up early for a few days straight, for studies & assignments prep, I'm in the 'period' moments. LOL.. you know, ladies' moments. XD Hence, I was really yearning for sleeps.

My assignments team were supposed to meet this morning for discussion this morning at 11am & guess what?! For the 3rd time, I got ffk appointment failed by "princess". Honestly, it was really annoying. But, what to do? Sometimes, mutual considerations must come in.

Hence, discussions were adjourned to 1pm. and lasted till about 3 pm. Right after that, I went home to change & got ready for SEEDs Operation Christmas Child. I honestly wanted to give up going, was really tired. :) But, guess that's what 'commitment' means. (Today's Bible Study was on: 'Commitment') I made it in the end, and had lotsa fun, no regrets.

After SEEDs, at about 9.40pm, I went back via train. I reached the station at about 9.50pm.. whereby I missed a train at 9.47pm and had to wait an hour more for the 10.47pm train.

Wait, I thought, was quite a waste of time and it's really torturing because I was really tired. My eye lids were barely active. LOL. It kept insist to close. :( *sigh*  I had to keep my eye lid battle winning at all times.

After waiting till about 10.30pm, I saw a train at Platform 3A (the platform I'm supposed to board the train), I was thinking, yay! I can rest in the train! (It's quite normal for the train to arrived 15 minutes earlier, it always does in the main station.) I was really desperate to get into the train. So, I hop in without second thoughts and waited for it to depart. At about 10.40pm, before the train departed, the doors were closed and the captain announce the train heading destination...

Everything was fine until I heard the destination was "COVENTRY". I was like OMG WTH "How can this happen?? I board the wrong train!!!" Ohhhhh crapppp!!!! Why didn't I ask if this was the train to W. place in which I usually remember to do so.

Even if I get down from the next station & board a train back to this station (New Street), I would missed the 10.47pm train, and would have to board the 11.47pm train then... CRAPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!! another hour. I'm really restless by now because I desperately need a nap. I'm seriously tired. It's either 'Hibernating' mode or 'Shut down'.

So, I got down from the 1st station where I board wrongly and headed back to New Street. *I AM SO TIRED*

By the time I reach New Street, there was a transit train boarding in 10 minutes that will pass my station. :) In other words, I don't have to wait for another ONE HOUR!!! THANK GOD!! I was so happy!! I hurried to the destined Platform and managed to board the train! Thank God for providing me in the time of need.. I was really glad such miracle happen!! woot woot! :) In times of such tiredness, when there's such miracle, you really feel like crying, honestly. :D THANK YOU, LORD!!!!

In the train, I was kinda hungry, LOL.. Besides the cold weather(it had been raining since afternoon), I'd been in the train station for almost 3 hours.  What a joke right?? XD

I got back home near midnight, which wasn't a safe thing to do. Shoes taken off, and headed straight to the kitchen to dig some supper.

Suddenly, Melissa came in and told me they had 'Nasi Lemak' (a Malaysian traditional cuisine) for dinner.. I was like.. *awww* how I wish I can have it too. The next thing she did was, open the microwave oven and took out these well-heated food for ME!!!!!

IS THIS A DREAM or what???? I'M HAVING NASI LEMAK for supper??
I would never dream of something like that!!! I'm so delighted & touched that my housemates saved these for me!!!

I LOVE YOU FLAT MATES!!!! God BLESS you mates!!!!!! God does provides in times of NEED!!! My day didn't really ended badly after all. :) I saw a glimpse of light in spite of darkness!!!!

You guys really can't imagine how being me today was?? LOL.

'Daniel Powter', I thought I had to sing your song, LOL. I didn't have to after all!! :D To God be the glory!! :D

Remembrance Day / Sunday

11th November 2009

During service last Sunday (8th Nov), at about 11am, the church paid a 'Remembrance Sunday' tribute. Seriously speaking, I was kinda blind out at that point. I didn't know what was going on. LOL.. but I acted as if I do. LOL. how silly of me. :)

Now that I do, I would love to share this with all of you. Take a peek.

Remembrance Day – also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day (the event it commemorates) or Veterans Day – is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. It is observed on 11 November to recall the end of World War I on that date in 1918. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) The day was specifically dedicated by King George V, on 7 November 1919, to the observance of members of the armed forces who were killed during war; this was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917.

In the United Kingdom, although two minutes of silence are observed on 11 November itself, the main observance is on the second Sunday of November, Remembrance Sunday. Ceremonies are held at local war memorials, usually organised by local branches of the Royal British Legion – an association for ex-servicemen. Typically, poppy wreaths are laid by representatives of the Crown, the armed forces, and local civic leaders, as well as by local organisations including ex-servicemen organisations, cadet forces, the Scouts, Guides, Boys' Brigade, St John Ambulance and the Salvation Army. The start and end of the silence is often also marked by the firing of a cannon. A minute's or two minutes' silence is also frequently incorporated into church services, and even everyday locations such as supermarkets and banks may invite their customers and staff to fall silent at 11:00 am.

The main national commemoration is held at Whitehall, in Central London, for dignitaries, the public, and ceremonial detachments from the armed forces and civilian uniformed services such as the Merchant Navy, Her Majesty's Coastguard, etc. Members of the British Royal Family walk through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office towards the Cenotaph, assembling to the right of the monument to wait for Big Ben to strike 11:00 am, and for the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery at Horse Guards Parade, to fire the cannon marking the commencement of the two minutes of silence. Following this, "Last Post" is sounded by the buglers of the Royal Marines. "The Rouse" is then sounded by the trumpeters of the Royal Air Force, after which, to "Beethoven's Funeral March" (composed by Johann Heinrich Walch), wreaths are laid by attendees in the following order: the Queen; senior members of the Royal Family attending in military uniform; the Prime Minister; the leaders of the major political parties from all parts of the United Kingdom; Commonwealth High Commissioners to London, on behalf of their respective nations; the Foreign Secretary, on behalf of the British Dependencies; the Chief of the Defence Staff; the First Sea Lord; the Chief of the General Staff; the Chief of the Air Staff; representatives of the merchant navy and Fishing Fleets and the merchant air service. Junior members of the Royal Family usually watch the service from the balcony of the Foreign Office. The service is generally conducted by the Bishop of London, with a choir from the Chapels Royal, in the presence of representatives of all major faiths in the United Kingdom. Before the marching commences, the members of the Royal Family and public sing the national anthem before the Royal Delegation lead out after the main service.

Members of the Reserve Forces and cadet organisations join in with the marching, alongside volunteers from St John Ambulance, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, and conflict veterans from World War II, the Falklands, Kosovo, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, other past conflicts, and the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. The last three British-resident veterans of World War I, Bill Stone, Henry Allingham, and Harry Patch, attended the 2008 ceremony but all passed away in 2009. After the service, there is a parade of veterans, who also lay wreaths at the foot of the Cenotaph as they pass, and a salute is taken by a member of the Royal Family at Horse Guards Parade.

This year, Remembrance Sunday is three days before the 91st anniversary of the end of the First World War. But Remembrance isn't just about the World Wars. It's also about remembering all the people who have died while fighting for their country since then, including the recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. British troops at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan also held a service to remember their fallen comrades.

In Scotland, First Minister Alex Salmond gave a reading at Edinburgh's St Giles Cathedral, and lay a wreath at the Stone of Remembrance. More than 60 wreaths were laid during a commemoration ceremony at Belfast's City Hall. And in Wales, the Army's last-surviving all-brass band, the Regimental Band of the Royal welsh, led the national Remembrance Sunday parade in Cardiff.

ps: For you guys who missed the 2nd sunday tribute, it's the exact day today. You're still not too late. :)

Bless someone this Christmas!!

9th November 2009

UK has this project call the 'Operation Christmas Child' (OCC) by Samaritan's Purse. The church I'm attending (ie. BCEC) is involved in this project. :)

Some fast facts about OCC:

"Operation Christmas Child is the UK's largest children's Christmas appeal and has been running for over 19 years. Thanks to a huge army of volunteers who give their time to help make this Christmas 'miracle' come to life, we are able to deliver gift-filled shoeboxes to children in Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. We work with local churches and charities overseas to ensure that your shoebox gets delivered by hand to children who need it most. Our approach is to give shoeboxes to children in need, regardless of their background or beliefs. Where it's appropriate our local partners also make available to children a booklet of Bible stories, including the original Christmas story - the birth of Jesus."

Hence, OCC is often known as Operation Shoebox because of its concept. Now you might wonder where does the gifts go to?? Click here.

NOTE: You don't have to be a christian to join this project..

Anyone can help the less fortunate ones. It's really easy, all you have to do is to get a shoebox(with proper measurements) and pack the box accordingly as shown here . Donations in cash form is greatly welcome too!

You can watch the video for further info.

Start blessing at least one life this Christmas. Like it is always said, 'Christmas is a time of giving and sharing'. You can make a difference !!

ps: My cell group will be working on the shoebox & shopping this Thursday ( 12th Nov at 5.30p.m.). Contact me if you want to join too! :) I'll brief you on the details.
